Chris Griffin grew up in the Rhymney Valley, a coalmining region of South Wales and studied at Gloucestershire College of Art, Cheltenham and the Royal College of Art, London. Griffin won the Anstuther Prize at the RCA and a prizewinner in the Laing Landscape Competition in 1997 and 1998.

Using heavily layered colour and paint texture Chris Griffin references re- imagined welsh landscapes and abstracted complex and intimate still life compositions.

Chris Griffin is a member of The Welsh Group, Watercolour Society of Wales and works with the Old Library Artists at his studio at Oriel Canfas in Canton, Cardiff
